Yesterday’s Passion Sunday, more popularly known as Palm Sunday, commemorated the beginning of week-long Filipino tradition of celebrating the Holy Week and Jesus’ final agonizing journey to the cross.

To live out our Lent fruitfully, I’ve created this Wholly Week Special series of posts. Why ‘wholly’? Because the daily posts that you’ll be reading starting today have an end goal of making you ‘whole’ once again by the end of the week.

Since it’s a Monday, and April has just started, I find it a perfect time to introduce to you my latest blog page – Pray. This post will mark the beginning of another category of my adventures. This is a new challenge for me as I’m new to writing spiritual posts, from my usual travel write-ups. But hopefully you’ll be with me, as He with us, and together we’ll trek this new path of adventure.

The Beginning

The opening chapter of the Bible begins with these words, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” This summarizes the drama that was about to unfold. We learn from the text that the earth was formless, empty, and dark until God’s Spirit moved over and then God began to speak into existence His creation. The day by day account then follows from day 1 to day 7.

The Creation of Man – Genesis 1

On the 6th day of creation God made each of the beasts of the earth and the creeping things after their own kind. He made man in His image and likeness (Genesis 1:26), and we find man is made differently than the animals.

Man as a Reflection of God

Since Genesis tells us that man is made in the image of God, then man reflects certain characteristics that belong to God. This means that the things that we create — tiny though they are in comparison — should be created in the same spirit as (Colossians 3:23–24) says:

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”

Today, dear readers and fellow adventurers, I’d like you to reflect on the passage above and ask yourself the following questions.

How are you doing in your life today? Do your actions still speak of God’s goodness to others? Are you using the best of your abilities to showcase your God’s given talents?

Hopefully this Monday as we begin our week, as we proceed to our offices, and start our day to day activities, we’ll not see work as a necessary drudgery to be undergone for the purpose of making money, but as a way of life in which the nature of man should find its proper exercise and delight and so fulfill itself to the glory of God. That it should, in fact, be thought of as a creative activity undertaken for the love of the work itself; and that man, made in God’s image, should make things, as God makes them, for the sake of doing well a thing that is well worth doing.
