Get Wet in Pink: Sta Cruz Island (aka The Pink Island), Zamboanga City

On our second day, we went on a morning trip to the famous pink sand beach of the Santa Cruz islands. To think that this parcel of Paradise is just 10 minutes away from the city proper … who wouldn’t dare visit it?

Since there were only the four of us and one boat (which could hold a maximum of 12 pax) costs 1,000php, we decided to join with another group. Beforehand you also need to list yourselves at the Tourism office for the trip as they will be providing a military escort to your group. I think this is because of the abductions and kidnappings many years back in the island (it was also because of this event that the Pink Island’s popularity waned). Continue reading

Pasonanca Park, Zamboanga City: The Little Baguio of the South

Pasonanca Park

Pasonanca Park is about 7 kms away from the city and is recognized as the “Little Baguio of the South” as it is one of the highest elevated barangays from the sea level.

How to get there: From city proper to Pasonanca

Take a Pasonanca bound jeepney from the city proper and get off at the Boy Scouts grounds. Fare is about 10 pesos and travel time is around 20 minutes.

Boy Scout Grounds

One of the most popular tourist attractions in Zamboanga City, well-known for holding conferences, regional seminars, conventions, outdoor camping or jamborees of Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts and has won awards as the number one garden in the Philippines.

A total contrast from the busy city center, lazy afternoons can best be enjoyed here  with the cool breeze of the air, the towering trees and clean surroundings at the Boy Scout grounds. It is a park built to commemorate the 24 Filipino boy scouts who died in a plane crash in India while they were on their way to attend a Jamboree in Greece in 1963.

Zamboanga City 3D/2N: The 1,000 Peso Travel Challenge

My itchy feet had been rested for a month now without any out of town trip and I admit that I am already bored. Luckily, the third week of March is already approaching and it’s time for me and my gang’s trip to Zambo (courtesy of Cebu Pacific from another piso fare, 775php RT all in fare!). Yay!

And what’s even more exciting this time is that we’ve challenged ourselves for a 1,000 pesos challenge. This means that we’ll just be spending 1,ooophp for the whole trip, inclusive of airport terminal fees, food, fare, and 2 nights accommodation. Can you imagine that?! I even can’t! We’ll let’s see if we’ll be able to meet this challenge. *Fingers crossed. Good luck!

So before we get all excited for a trip that  didn’t happen yet but is yet to come (I’ll still be traveling tomorrow), I’ll just be posting the details here of our Zambo plan and itinerary. Hopefully this may come in handy for you in the future, especially if your planning to travel the cheaper way. Continue reading
